So there’s one thing that all social media strands have in common. If you have no followers, or friends, or contacts (whatever your current social media stream calls people who elect to link themselves to you in the network) then no-one knows who you are, no-one sees what jobs you have available and no potential talent comes your way.

A social media advertising service or social media marketing jobs are there to guide people to your door – and conversely to guide you to the doors of the people it would be most fruitful for you to be aligned with.

What you need, to build your brand in the social network, is commitment, discipline and time. You can’t simply put out a few Tweets, or make a couple of friends, and expect to be paid back with fruitful connections and loads of return on your time investment.

Because, and here is the key that will unlock any social media involvement, it’s all about that word “social”. To get maximal value from any social media marketing jobs, or from any social media advertising service, you need to be conversing regularly. You need to forge interesting links with people and groups to whose conversations you can contribute. And you need to be able to generate interest and fascination of your own, by posing and posting things that are either fascinating, or that are extremely useful to your connections.

In the business world, usefulness is more interesting than interesting. Though if what you do and say is interesting enough it will also be useful.

In terms of recruitment, finding future talent using social media marketing jobs or a social media advertising service is all about playing the long game. Because here we are talking about talent and not about candidates for a specific job.

So you get yourself out there and get involved with the social media circles that have the most clout in your industry. That puts you in contact with the people most likely to be up and coming – or if they are already established, it puts you in contact with the people and the brands for whom the most likely talent is looking.

See your first goal as a user of social networks for your business, is to make your business an authority. You want the talent to see your brand as something that they would like to represent. You want them enthused and – a word I am blogging about a lot with respect to social media marketing jobs and social media advertising services – passionate.

So some of your social media marketing to attract new talent is as much about branding as it is about finding people. There should be some natural bleed over between your product to customer branding on social media and your business to talent branding – the best talent, of course, wanting to work for the most exciting brands within their market sector.

You can even entice talent from one market sector to another, by developing relationships with people whose social graph puts them in the frame for a change in role. Do it right, the world’s your oyster.
